I'll mirror Lost's request... Make me U.S., again! The Thompson works, I love the M1, and I usually use a 101st skin so I can have them! My custom skin is getting dusty! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Meatgrinder_Malone: I recieved the skins. Do you want the Allied skin to be US, UK or RA? Lamron,i have a British skin in the pack, but was wondering if you could arrange it so that I could use the LEE-ENFIELD? thanks... umm, the british skins already use the Lee-Enfield as their rifle. Is that what you meant?

But does the M1 now have the faster ROF it has on the original game? I swear, it had been slowed down to the same as the other SLOWER BOLT-ACTION rifles available, and when I went Brit before, to get the Sten, I missed the M1 the single-player game and other severs have.

Yes, the M1 has a reduced rate of fire. And yes, that was done to level the playing field with other bolt rifles. On those occassions where we play teams, no side has a clear advantage when rifles are used. I can live with the lower ROF. Lamron also upped the M1's power to equal the bolt rifles. Apples to apples!

Apples to apples! Well, that doesn't mean I have to like it! The German side HAD a semi-auto sniper with a several shot magazine which could have been used nearly equivalently without the scope, and that was taken away, too. I think, can't remember exactly, we still have that weapon in Super Sniper play-mode, with 2 shots before reloading, and that is superior to the single shot reloaders the others get, you know. What's next, do we all get Woody's knobby knees? ;D

That was another change that was made due to complaints of unfair advantage. During team and sniper modes, some complaints arose from those who were laying waste with the semi-auto sniper rifles, such as the Russian SVT. All complaints ended when Lamron gave all Allied snipers the Springfield and all Axis snipers the KAR98 Sniper. Occassionally I miss the variety of weapons, but all the complaints disappeared with the changes. ...well, until now. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Not to get too far off the topic of custom skins, I discovered after my first weapons mod that true realism makes terrible game play. Some weapons are clearly better than others. In real life you use what you're issued and make up for any shortcommings with superior numbers/tactics/etc. Given a choice no one would use anything but:
Best rifle: Garand Best sniper: SVT-40 Best SMG: Thompson or PPSH Best MG: BAR
For the puposes of the game, the STG44 is a MG. It actually falls between the SMG and MG in usage as the first assualt rifle.
If all game settings were accurate, you would use the SVT-40 or STG44. A few players would use the PPSH for the large drum mag. A smaller number would pick the Springfield for its greater accuracy. And all confontations would be over in one-two shots. This would be BORING. So a few changes and balances have to be made to make the game playable. My goal is to allow players with different weapons to play together and have a chance to win on skill, not weapon type.
Lots of players who have been playing a long time end up at rifle only servers. Or rifle + smg that are weak enough to be useless. I believe that with the right balance, I can let the player choose his weapon, and still make it fun for everyone.
There are some one-weapon-players, but many (including myself) base our choice on the map layout. And several of our players routinely pick rifle/sniper and play against several MGs without feeling totally helpless. I gave the snipers a better pistol just to encourage the type of game where nobody feels like they HAVE to use the same weapon as everybody else just to compete.
I am of course open to any suggestions about the weapon settings. But many of the suggestions I get are (unintentionally) basically "make my favorite weapon better". I have spent many an hour observing other players and playing with all of the different weapons myself. This has led to litterally hundreds of tweaks and changes to the weapons. So occasionally you'll have to take my word for what works.
======================================= As an historical aside: notice that the Allied weapons have generally better construction and inovative design features (such as semi-auto). This may have contributed to the Allied win of the war. The STG44 was issued late and in relatively small numbers. If available at the beginning, the war might have been greatly prolonged. On the other hand, if the Russians had been able to equip ALL of their soldiers with weapons and better gear, it may have been shortened somewhat IMHO.

OK, I admit I'm not the best skilled player, or even in the top half. I'm happy if my kills are about 2x my deaths, regardless of how many kills I have. So, yes, I want the better weapon, the M1 I know and love with the single-person game. It is so frustrating to miss my first shot, then WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT for a reload of a second shot whilst others accurately shoot my head off with their smg's despite my jumping, leaning, running, squatting, and spitting. And I can't seem to reach the same level of skill with the smg, so that's not the answer. The shotgun with incendiary round has given me one alternate weapon to use as a distractor to my chasers after my first missed shot while I regroup (toast them toes while I tiptoe on out), but oh, yeah, the combat shotgun has been modded to hold only 2 buckshot rounds, not the 3 or 5 or 7 it really can hold, but hey, don't get me started on that one, either.
But all that aside, my point, my real point, was to all those flocking to the M1 with the new skin menu: It ain't your granddaddy's M1--it's modded, so look before you leap.
Now, please, no one get me wrong, I'm here for fun and I'm getting it, WITH all the restraints imposed by the server. Yes, if I were king of the world, or just chief server dude, I might try other things as I see fit, only to reach the same opinions as Lamron has......or not, hence my posts.
Thanks for listening, Lamron and everyone, and that is not sarcasm!!!!
See you on the battlefields.
