I watched the footage today of the devastation. Man, I sure feel for those poor folks. I was extremely angry hearing about the criminals cashing in on the disaster(robbing/looting etc) Makes me want to load up on ammo and sort out those scumbags!

Some of the news networks have been airing clips of looters leaving stores with their arms full of stolen goods. One that I found ironic was some dude running out of the store with a huge grin, carrying what appeared to be an armload of potato chips. His community has just been devastated by a massive hurricane, civilization is struggling to maintain itself, but this moron is happier than a pig in $h!t because he scored a few free bags of chips?!?

I watched the clips on CNN...I feel for the people...but those looters.....how is 10 pair of jeans gonna help someone survive now?...I can understand food and water, but anything else should have a shotgun for an answer! Survival is survival....but anything else is a crime to be judged.

I don't think I would actually shoot people looting a store (my house might be a different story), but I would take GREAT plesure in putting holes in the stolen items as they run away. If someone is carrying a TV on their shoulder, and you shoot out the screen, the look on his face should be priceless.

The MSHP is sending a group of 25 Troopers to Mississippi to assist with control and security. I volunteered, but was not one of the two chosen from my troop (about 70 in our troop). On one hand I was disappointed, because I really want to be there doing what I can to assist in the re-establishment of civilization. On the other hand, it would be several weeks of hard work, very basic accomodations, and a lot of time away from the family.
This rebuilding effort will remain intense for several months, and the finished product is years away. I'll probably get another chance.

Picture from New Orleans: Over 250 school buses. The big ones that hold 66-85 passengers. Over 21,000 people could have ridden these in ONE trip. Most of the people "stuck" in N.O. were too stupid to leave after repeated warnings (or just wanted to stay for the looting). The one's who couldn't (poor, elderly, etc) were the victims of criminally incompetent city and state government. Let's not forget that this same corrupt local government that completely failed to have any workable disaster plan, has been receiving federal money for years that was supposed to go toward improvement/maintenance of the levies. Somehow all this money "disappeared". The lost of property from Katrina was a tragedy. The loss of life has partially criminal, and partially just stupid people getting what they deserve. I know that makes me the "bad guy" to think that people should take SOME responsibility for their own lives, instead of just sitting there waiting for someone else to do it all for them. The pictures of human suffering are powerful images that touch the hearts of everyone. Compassion should make us want to help on an individual level, but governmental aid just increases the attitude of entitlement. Have you seen the videos of people who are ANGRY that the government hasn't come in a given them things? Ungrateful bastards! The government doesn't have any money to "give" you, unless it steals it from me first. I can't stand people who think the world "owes" them something. The air you breathe is free, everything else you have to earn. I know that some are going to think this is "cold-hearted", but the evidence is clear that this kind of welfare, trust-the-unreliable-gov-to-meet-all-my-needs mentality always leads to misery. Can I get an AMEN ?

Amen. Personal responsibility and accountability are foreign concepts, nowadays. Think how civil and successful a world with these concepts at heart would be.
