this will make pres. cringe... I am running one stick of 1 gig and one stick of 512.. runs like a charm no mem problems here.. but then again I do not have a proprietary system. I forgot to mention, as mar said. it is only a bad thing if they are dual channel ports, I won't go into detail about exactly what that is. But the 2 ports run as a pair. But if you have 2 ports, non-dual channel 2 different sticks will be no problem.

Some boards have 4 slots and two different channels so if you are running miss matched mem you need to know where to put them to get the most out of them. And s far a building a PC if you can snap Lego's together you can build a PC.

h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00069442&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=431077&lang=enhere is your computer I assume Rook...but the memory is going to depend on the Processor you have...up to XP3000 took 2700 Ram...an XP3200 was PC3200..so what CPU do you have? there are several different manufacturers of ram, and they use IC's from other companies..so even if you bought what you thought was persay Azen PC2700 ram...yours may be that but have Samsung IC's while the new had Hynix (manufacturers of Integrated Circuits). In some computers this is totally incompatible, that is why it is sometimes easier to take it to a shop for those comps so as they can try several different batches. Right now I run mostly OCZ ram which is fairly consistent in their manufacturing...have 2 running it...and one running Corsair Extreme..but I am eyeing up the Crucial Ballistix PC8500 for this rig....I should be able to go to about a 20% oc..as opposed to the 10% I now run.. www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=BL2KIT12864AL1065plus a little bling.. I am not sure what most of this means. LOL The link to my computer? There wasn't a picture so I'm not sure if its mine or not. LMAO!! seriously I don't know what most of those numbers mean.

CPU tab: AMD Athlon XP code name: Barton Package: Socket A (462) Specification: AMD Athlon(tm) XP3200+
SPD tab: DDR 512MB PC2700 (166MHz)
Slot 2 is empty and that is where I tried to put the 1 GIG that I bought. I tried taking out the 512 and just using the 1 GIG but still had no luck.

do you have a program that can screen shot the CPU tab...because I am not liking what I see. What I am seeing does not jive with what you have. You have a mismatched setup.

do you have a program that can screen shot the CPU tab... I probably do and just don't know how to use it. i have taken screen shots before and am unable to find them later. I will look for a way to get it to you.

www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.htmlHere is a Freeware screen capture program that works pretty well. You can set it up to capture and save automatically to any folder or one you set up just for screen captures. I like it, and it works with Vista too. Hope that helps

OK new question, When I download this, Where do I want put it, or downloaded to. LOL Every time I start something it leads more and more problems, I want to make sure it gets put somewhere, where it can be used without having to go run/start it every time.

You can download the "setup file" right to your desktop and run it from there. After you install it, you can move the "setup file" anywhere you wish to at a later time. I try to keep stuff like that in the "My Documents" folder. Within the My Documents folder there should be a folder called "downloads". If you don't have a file called this, you can create one. I would create a new folder within the "downloads" folder and label it what the program name is, and place the "setup file" in that. Mainly because when we download these things, a lot of time the name of the program is not on the "setup file". When you are installing the program, just use the default installation process. You can make changes to the program at a later time. You can actually set up this program to auto-save your screenshots to any folder you choose, or create. The first thing you will want to set up on this program is where your screenshots get saved, then you can experiment freely with the program and not worry about losing files all over the place. Let me know if I can help to confuse you any further...

In my case , I go to the Apple Store...ask if they have any "take outs" ( memory modules that have been removed from new machines to configure to a customer's order.) Then, They they sell me the "take out" for $30.00 (list $99 ) (this was for a 512) The policy at the time was, that Apple could not technically sell it as new, hence the steep deal.....! Worth a try.....A tip for all my Mac buddies out there!
