not bad pvt... it wont void your warranty if you crack your own case on a mac? No "cracking" involved--two screws to be loosened, the cover comes off, then snap the module right in. I did it for mine, added a 512 to the standard 512. Easy as pie, except don't try to unscrew the screws entirely, my Mac brothers!

"cracking" a case is the term used when you open a tower..laptop to do something(removing the screws to access components )...most companys put a tinfoil style sticker that will tear so they can tell if the case was opened. Upon discovery of a torn sticker..all warranty through said company is void.

yep that is what I was talking about. ;D
Red I am proud of you buddy.. you took the first bold step towards modding your own computer... most of the other things are about that easy too.. just have to learn some specs and compatibilities and you will be on your way to the mod addiction that seizes many of our black windows using lil' hearts... hehehe

I have added PRAM batteries, wireless cards, and RAM over the years to a total of half a dozen Macs; it doesn't void the Apple warranty just to open the access slots and put in these, only if you open it up totally such that you could take out the disk drives, hard disk, etc.
One of my very old Macs, way out of warranty, developed a floppy drive problem, and I took it to a MacUser meeting years ago, and there we truly cracked it open, having to use a special wedging tool, to access the floppy drives and pull poker chips out of the drive (thanks, Little Ones!), and while in there, we brushed and vacuumed out a tremendous amount of dust (taking care about static electricity and grounding, etc.).

.... wow you Mac guys have a support group? Yep, one in every major city. www.apple.com/usergroups/www.apple.com/usergroups/learnmore/whyjoin/www.apple.com/usergroups/learnmore/answers/We discuss cool stuff (new macs, new software, developments in the electronic entertainment and information world), watch videos (like Jobs showing off the new iPhone* at his MacWorld address last Jan/Feb), get freebies from software distributors and magazine publishers, teach each other the OS tricks and tips, and help each other with problems (remember, we don't, as a rule, read manuals--we do, and learn, intuitively and by experience**) and have monthly giveaways (one month I won Adobe Acrobat Standard version!!!), and have a Christmas giveaway (usually 2 macs and 4 ipods plus software and lots of other smaller items) funded by left-over member dues ($30/year for individual, 35/year for family) with steep Apple user-group discounts (I won a color printer 2 years ago). Usually we have a few of the more nerdy types who have to work with PC's and know how they work, too, so it's refreshing to hear them hoot and holler about having to fix those machines and the dummies that buy them and can't even find a file on their hard disks, etc. *What, you thought I could do a post and not mention the holy grail? iPhone iPhone iPhone iPhone iPhone iPhone iPhone iPhone LOL **How many people does it take to set up a PC? 5. One to open the box and do the work, and 4 to carry and read the manuals.

Ohhh I am not denying that there are manuals available. PC and windows have plenty of them if you want them, but you have to download them or buy them anymore.. As with Mac and apple.. there are always manuals available.
the memory specs discussed here are not for everyday users, most of it is for those of us that like to tweak our systems for a specific use... EG: gaming. Just like a motor head likes to tweak his engine with things that will give it more power but not mandatory upgrades.
I have not needed one yet to set up a PC, though..
However I would need one for a Mac.. as I have never set one up..
"Red, iphones don't work in my area"
no at&t service available... screw the roaming charges.. LOL
