What kind of a parent lets somebody record a family argument like that? Parents who have NO IDEA what their kids are doing. One kid is meeting people off my space and the other is putting what he wants on the internet.

Well, she knew the one was walking around the house with a camcorder. If that had been me as a teenager, that camcorder would have been in little pieces on the floor after my Dad got done with it. And if I had ever involved myself in the middle of my parents yelling at my sister, my punishment would have been worse than whatever she got.
If I had done some of the things I see kids doing on YouTube, I would have ended up in a shallow grave in the backyard and my parents would have told everybody that I ran away.

I don't know. Are you the one that "went to live on a farm" and never came back?

Uhmmm, I don't recall anything from the video (only watched it once, someone correct me if I missed it) that mentioned parentS, that is, no Father was in the picture, if you'll pardon the pun. No wonder the "family" depicted there is falling apart. Reminds me of most Disney teen movies, where there is no Father or the Father is a buffoon (think about the Disney movies you know, and you'll see I'm right).
Camcorder? Forget the camcorder, what kind of a decent parent lets a kid talk about "rape" and "in the butt" openly like that, without any reproof !?
And punishment is to take a car away? What the crap is a teen doing with a car in the first place? I didn't even let my oldest get her D.L. until she was 19, and my middle child still has a learner's permit at 19, and the 17 y.o. has not even been allowed to get a learner's permit yet. I got mine at age 20, permit that is, and first car when I married my wife (age 23) and she had one already. And all my kids have worked summers--there is the bus, they can walk, or we can take them to work as we go do our errands, etc. A little inconvenient at times, but a far better life lesson, I think, than "giving" them or letting them use a car, and none of them wanted to work extra to buy or maintain a car, anyway, so they chose their priorities (spend more time studying, and work to save to buy clothes and a Mac).

A MAC...now that's CHILD ABUSE...lol I cant say much about the car thing. I bought my dads 85 Chev celebrity in 1990 for $500 and had to pay my own insurance, on dads policy. Dad is a diabetic so I was allowed by WV state law to get a DL at 15, bought car at 16.5. As to the comments about Rape and in the butt. I have a 15 year old daughter that my wife and I regularly discuss sex and sexual topics with. if she is to know anything it should be the information we give her. I am only 35 and my wife is 39. I am certain that our ideals are different from most here. these discussions not only include the clinical but street verbiage that the kids use. for instance we told her that if a boy asks for a hummer for his birthday he don't want a truck. If I remember correctly the video had a deeper voice that said something out of the picture.

I too did not buy any of my kids a car.. The ones that wanted one worked and earned the money to buy the car. They paid me for insurance and taxes on the car, and were responsible for budgeting their money to keep gas in the car and up keep. This is exactly how it was for me growing up and, I think I took care of my first car better than any of my friends that had one given to them. They would tear theirs up burn the tires off, break things through miss use then and the parents paid for it all.
As to the in the butt comment. I would have been sliding down the wall in our house if I had been stupid enough to say that with in hearing of mom or dad. We discussed sex matters openly, and I did also with my kids, but I was not allowed to talk that way to my sister.
One whole week grounding from the car.... LOL I would not have seen the light of day at least for a month.

Well I owned my first truck as a 17 year old senior in high school. It was a 1985 Dodge Ramcharge. It was brand new. My father went and bought it. he handed me the payment book and insurance bill (on his policy.) I paid for that vehicle (and all related costs) and every one of the 43 vehicles that I have owned since that one. His philosophy is that if you want to act like an adult then you can be responsible like one. I started working at part time at 14, full time in summers. I was taught that to have anything in this life you have to work for them and be self reliant. These were the best lessons I was ever taught. I worked full time all through college too. I LOVED it. It sickens me today to hear kids whining about wanting new cars when they have no plan to pay for them. I say if they cannot learn at an early age about money and responsibility then they never will learn it. On the topic of sex, my parents never mentioned it to me at all. But honestly I was actually pretty mature for a adolescent boy. I was primarily raised by my grandmother and great grandparents who took no crap off of anyone They were strict but fun and loving. They had ultra high expectations, which is a what I attribute my values and attitudes to.

I got my first car at the age of 16. It was a 1965 Dodge Dart 4 door. My mother co-signed for me to get it. I worked at a burger joint for 47.00 a week and payed for the car as well as gas and up keep. Man do I miss that car. Wifezilla's first car was a 1965 Chevy Impalla 4 door that her parents gave her. We were married at 17 and have worked hard for everything else. 34 years this November.
We got our children their first cars when they turned 16 as well. They had to work and help pay some of the expences of the vehicles. We furnished them the cars as long as they stayed in school and kept up a certin grade point average. Both kids knew that if they messed up the cars would be taken away from them and SOLD.
As for the comment about the rape in the butt I would have beaten my son within an inch of his life. As a police officer while my children were growing up it scared me to death knowing what could happen to them in the real world. Both children knew that if they wanted to talk about anything that they could. I think that a lot of parents are afraid to sit down and talk with there kids, that is a shame.
