Well if MM's is 2 cans and a string, mine is 2 cave men 10 miles apart beating out code on hollow logs.. I'm calling my ISP Monday and tossing a fit .. I paid to upgrade my service to 1MB/PS down and 780 KB/PS I do believe I'm getting ripped off. And this is a dsl connection.
Download Speed: 673 kbps (84.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 327 kbps (40.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
never really noticed a problem and Im running 2 pc's off a wirless router. Only notice lag in game sometimes and usually when people join that have a high ping. mine usally is around 50-90

DSL speed drops off DRAMATICALLY the farther you are from their nearest booster station. If it's on a pole in your back yard, you'll get the speeds they advertise. If you're a couple hundred feet away, you'll get much less. All the cool kids are using cable connections.

Cox Premier High Speed Internet Service offers up to 15Mbps downstream and 2Mbps upstream for just $56.95/mo.
I too have cox but I think it only costs about $40. Not sure though since we have "The bundle" ;D

Just one bill ,so not exactly sure how it breaks down per item . I just look at the total and pay it.

From DC: Download Speed: 9021 kbps (1127.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1397 kbps (174.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
From NY: Download Speed: 7162 kbps (895.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1344 kbps (168 KB/sec transfer rate)
My little bro's IMAC is also tied in and online, so that is probably slowing it down. I'll shut it off and run the tests again.
Edit: 1000kbps increase in down and about 100kbps increase in up.
Also on Comcast

I used to be one of the cool kids on a cable connection.. But moved out here in the country and that is not an option. I tested my speed on the Chicago link then used the test Red mentioned with the Minneapolis link (122 miles from me) and got same results. They even recently upgraded all our lines to fiber optics at the box so that should speed it up a bit. Ill defiantly be asking some questions. LOL

ATLANTA: Download Speed: 23048 kbps (2881 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 2360 kbps (295 KB/sec transfer rate)
I have Comcast 4MB (their basic service level) high speed internet service. Roughly $50 a month but my wife and I both use it and our apartment tenant uses our network also. So for 3 networked pc's $50 isn't offensively bad. Well, yes it is... but given that in backward Pigeon Forge, TN my only other option is dial up (NEVER will that happen) I am very happy.

I'll do this at home later. Here is my work PC result, though, through Atlanta; I think it's a T1 line: Download Speed: 1073 kbps (134.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 652 kbps (81.5 KB/sec transfer rate) I like www.speedtest.net, myself, and I usually have to go through the Atlanta server as the closest server available. www.speedtest.net Here's my home setup (Mac with Comcast non-Lost Child quality cable and wireless router) with Atlanta server: Download Speed: 12813 kbps (1601.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 366 kbps (45.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Using the Seattle server (farthest from me) I got Download Speed: 3320 kbps (415 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 356 kbps (44.5 KB/sec transfer rate). BUT..... I noticed with multiple attempts that the upload rate stayed +- 5 kbps while the download rate varied +- 33 PERCENT, for both the Seattle and Atlanta servers.

Logs and waxed string..... ;D Can we not hear the Jungle drums in the distance? Those be my natives, some running in squirrel cages trying to keep pace with the others who be beating on the bongos. I am at a loss reading these rates though and what the abbreviations mean. KBPS = what? Kilobytes per second? and KB/sec transfer rate = what? Kilobytes per second? Even though I am quite dumbfounded at what all this means, I would have to assume that we are all going to get different rates at different times of the day too, are we not? Here are the rates that I got: Washington DC: Download Speed: 7433 kbps (929.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 552 kbps (69 KB/sec transfer rate) Dallas: Download Speed: 7412 kbps (926.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 552 kbps (69 KB/sec transfer rate) L.A.: Download Speed: 6862 kbps (857.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 550 kbps (68.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Chicago: (which I would assume should be the fastest since it is the closest) Download Speed: 6263 kbps (782.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 553 kbps (69.1 KB/sec transfer rate) The odd thing about trying the speeds through Chicago's server is that it starts out at 8,000, to 9,000 then drastically drops after that. And I got a 7,500 reading from both L.A. and Washington DC earlier. I live out of town too, as DS does and I am on the very very end of the cable's line. (Last pole on the county road, no one down the road past me has access to cable services) According to the "Plan" I am buying from my cable server, I should be getting 512 Kbps Downstream & 128 Kbps Upstream. (it's the basic internet plan that they offer) Now, according to my notes that I wrote down when I first starting inquiring about Cable internet, I should be getting 2 megs download and 216 KB upload. Now I am totally confused WHOA! almost forgot to hit the spell-checker....
