sounds very similar to what I had to go through..
after the tech came to my house and tested the speed on his laptop and saw that it was not my computer slowing it down, he hopped on the cell phone and conferred with another tech in hushed tones. miracle of miracles the speed doubled in less than a min.
I'm very suspicious that the ISP's are not bumping up our bandwidth when we order the upgrades, figuring that most people will not or don't know how to test their connection speed.

My ISP (Knology) has a speed test link on there home page and when you initially get installed the tech shows you how to use it and tells you what it means. They also inform you that there will be a variance between 6:00 pm and 2:00 am!

well seeing as how we all are having problems lately lets check this back out. From my ISP's site at 730pm
Test Result:
Download Speed: 5396 kbps (674.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 362 kbps (45.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 5531 kbps (691.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 363 kbps (45.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
and of the one Red posted
3930 kb/s down
361 kb/s up
all of these seem fair given I have a cable connection.
Next guess is the vid card running a Nvidia 7900gt 256mb overclocked by10%

I'm running at what I was after they fixed/bumped up my connection..
the cavemen now have discovered snail mail... lmao

I tested my connection and the site laughed at me and disconnected....and to top it off ....Banned me....LOL
